IO Interactive has officially pushed back the release of its highly anticipated James Bond video game, 007 First Light, by two months. The action-adventure title, developed by the studio behind the acclaimed Hitman series, will now arrive on May 27, 2026, instead of the original March 27, 2026 date.
In a statement shared on social media and reported across gaming outlets, IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak explained the decision: “Today, we are sharing an update regarding 007 First Light, as we have decided to move the game’s release by two months, to the 27th of May 2026.” The studio emphasized that the game is already “fully playable from beginning to end,” and the extra time will be used to “further polish and refine the experience” to deliver the quality fans deserve on day one.
Why the Delay for 007 First Light?

This marks the first major James Bond video game since 007 Legends in 2012. 007 First Light promises globe-trotting espionage, high-stakes car chases, signature gadgets, and intense action-adventure gameplay set in the iconic 007 universe. IO Interactive described it as their “most ambitious project to date.”
The two-month delay is widely viewed as a positive, cautious move in an industry where rushed launches have led to mixed reviews and post-release patches. By shifting the date, the team aims to ensure smoother performance, better optimization, and a stronger overall experience at launch across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
Note on platforms: While the May 27, 2026 date applies to PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, the Nintendo Switch 2 version has faced an additional delay and is now expected “later this summer” (Q3 2026)
What Fans Can Expect from 007 First Light
- Story & Cast: A fresh Bond narrative featuring voice and performance talent including Patrick Gibson (as the new 007), Gemma Chan, Lennie James, and Lenny Kravitz.
- Gameplay: Stealth, shooting, driving sequences, and signature spy gadgets in large, detailed environments.
- Developer pedigree: IO Interactive’s expertise in intricate level design and replayable missions from the Hitman franchise.
The delay gives the studio breathing room following early gameplay reveals and community feedback, allowing further refinement of visuals, frame rates, and overall polish.
