Naughty Dog, known for delivering some of the most compelling game narratives, is developing a new original IP titled Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. Revealed during the Game Awards 2024, this upcoming PS5 exclusive introduces Jordan A. Mun as the protagonist, portrayed by Tati Gabrielle.

Gabrielle, known for her roles in the Uncharted movie and The Last of Us season 2, mentioned that director Neil Druckmann has been rigorously training her for the role following backlash from the latter series. The game’s soundtrack will be composed by the legendary duo Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross.

Storyline and Setting

The game is set on the mysterious planet Sempiria, a remote location that lost communication with the universe centuries ago. Protagonist Jordan A. Mun, a bounty hunter, embarks on a mission to capture Colin Graves, a member of the criminal gang Five Aces, who vanished after terrorizing the Bluestar Systems. The story will explore themes of faith, religion, and loneliness as Jordan navigates the perilous terrain of Sempiria.

According to Neil Druckmann, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet aims to present a deeper and more immersive experience compared to previous Naughty Dog titles. The studio plans to integrate gameplay elements inspired by Elden Ring, focusing on player freedom and environmental storytelling. Druckmann highlights that the game will challenge players to explore and interpret the world around them, fostering a sense of isolation and mystery.

Release Date and Development

As of now, no official release date for Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet has been announced. Development began in 2020, following the completion of The Last of Us Part 2. The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly impacted the production timeline, making it unlikely that the game will launch in 2025. While the game will be a PS5 exclusive, there is speculation that it might eventually make its way to PC, similar to previous Naughty Dog titles.

The debut trailer, lasting 4 minutes and 33 seconds, sets the tone with a cryptic message from Sempiria:

Jordan A. Mun’s ship is shown heading toward the planet, followed by a confrontation with a robotic enemy wielding a glowing red sword. The trailer hints at dynamic combat, realistic visuals, and atmospheric world-building.

Druckmann teased that Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet will feature the deepest gameplay mechanics in the studio’s history, leveraging lessons from their past franchises while aiming to push creative boundaries. The focus on player autonomy and exploration draws inspiration from titles like Elden Ring, emphasizing immersive storytelling through interaction with the environment.

PS5 Exclusivity and Potential PC Release

Since Naughty Dog is part of PlayStation Studios, the game will initially launch as a PS5 exclusive. The studio is known for setting technical benchmarks, so PS5 Pro support is expected.
