Sony has announced a huge price cut for the PlayStation VR2, making the headset more accessible to gamers. From March, the new price of the headset will be set at $399.99 / €449.99 / £399.99, marking a $150 / €150 / £130 drop from its original launch price of $549.99 / €599.99 / £529.99.

Additionally, Sony is also introducing a new bundle that includes the PSVR2 headset along with a PlayStation Store voucher code for Horizon: Call of the Mountain, available at the same standard price of $399.99 / €449.99 / £399.99.

Sony Confirms Permanent Price Drop

“For those of you who have been waiting for the opportunity to jump into PlayStation VR2 and experience what this generation’s innovative virtual reality system has to offer, we are happy to share some great news! Starting in March, we’re reducing the recommended retail price (RRP) of PS VR2.”

Expanding Game Library and New Features

Sony highlighted recent VR titles such as Alien: Rogue Incursion, Skydance’s Behemoth, and Metro Awakening VR, while also teasing upcoming releases like Aces of Thunder, Dreams of Another, Hitman World of Assassination, and The Midnight Walk.

Players can also connect PlayStation VR2 to a PC using the PS VR2 PC Adapter, that enables access to thousands of VR games on Steam.

Recently, an system update was also released for low-latency hand tracking, allowing for more immersive interactions. Sony explained:

“In addition, with a recent update to PS VR2, it now supports low-latency hand tracking, which allows developers to create games that tracks a player’s hand position and movement through the cameras embedded on the PS VR2 headset. Through this new feature, players will be able to experience intuitive controls in supported games such as Waltz of the Wizard.”

PlayStation VR2 Sales and Production Update

The PSVR2 launched on 22nd of February, 2023, and sold just under 600,000 units within its first six weeks. However, Sony didn’t released further sales figures, leading to speculation about the headset’s market performance.

Many reports indicated that Sony halted production of PSVR2 in March 2024 due to unsold inventory.

With the new price cut and growing game library, Sony aims to boost adoption and renew interest in the PlayStation VR2 ecosystem.
