Nintendo Switch 2

The Nintendo Switch 2 is reportedly set to be revealed on Thursday, January 16. This claim comes from the reliable Podcast Nate the Hate, which suggests that a reveal trailer will focus primarily on the new hardware, with a software showcase planned for late February or early March.

“I can share with you that Nintendo Switch 2 will be revealed in the coming week… I have been told Switch 2 will be revealed on Thursday, January 16… just a few days from now,” they stated. “I’ve heard that the reveal itself is going to focus almost exclusively on the console itself. There is not going to be any presence of games. There could be a game shown running on the screen, depending on how the trailer is put together, but software is not going to be a focus.”

This two-phase reveal strategy aligns with how Nintendo introduced the original Switch. In 2016, the console was initially announced with a hardware-focused trailer, followed by a comprehensive reveal in January 2017, where games and release details were showcased. Titles such as Mario Odyssey were shown running during the first reveal, although they weren’t formally announced at that time.

Nate the Hate speculates that the Switch 2 might launch as early as May or June this year, with a new version of Mario Kart potentially available at launch. Additionally, a 3D Mario title is rumored to release during the 2025 holiday season. Third-party titles like Final Fantasy 7 Remake are reportedly in development for the console. Ubisoft is said to be preparing Assassin’s Creed Mirage for the platform, while Konami is rumored to port Metal Gear Solid Delta.

Nintendo has already confirmed plans to reveal its next console during its current fiscal year, which ends in March 2025. Reports from VGC indicate that development partners have had access to the new hardware since mid-2023, and the company originally aimed for a 2024 launch. However, the timeline appears to have been adjusted to avoid potential shortages, with the system now expected to release this year.

Recent leaks regarding the Switch 2 have gained traction, including claims from accessory maker Genki, which showcased what it described as an accurate replica of the new system. Alleged images of the Switch 2 Joy-Cons suggest they might be slightly larger and feature a magnetic connection. Additionally, hardware component images leaked on Reddit appear to support rumors that Nvidia technology will power the console. These developments have added to the excitement surrounding Nintendo’s next-generation console.
