GSC Game World has wrapped up 2024 with the release of Patch 1.1 for Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl, marking a significant milestone for the game. Alongside this update, the developer confirmed plans for a next-gen patch for the console versions of the Stalker: Legends of the Zone Trilogy, set for release next year.

While no specific date has been announced, GSC Game World hinted at broader updates for fans of the original trilogy, stating, “We know you’ve asked us to update the PC versions of the original Stalker games, and we also plan to do that.” Fans are encouraged to “keep an eye on our social media so you don’t miss the exact dates.”

Major Patch and Future Roadmap

In an end-of-year message, GSC Game World expressed gratitude for the community’s ongoing support:

“Yesterday, a major patch 1.1 for Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl was released. All the time between the release and the Christmas holidays has been dedicated to improving your experience with our game. We hope that many of you will find the time to start, continue, or finish Stalker 2 during the holidays.”

The studio also reassured players that Stalker 2 will continue to receive updates throughout the coming year, with a detailed content roadmap set to be unveiled in early 2025.

“The next-gen patch for the console versions of Stalker: Legends of the Zone Trilogy will be released next year,” the developer confirmed. “We know you’ve asked us to update the PC versions of the original Stalker games, and we also plan to do that. The amount of support you’ve shown us since the game’s launch still amazes us. Your support is truly a miracle of the Zone. We will see you next year!”

Addressing Performance Concerns

Since its release in November, Stalker 2 faced criticism for performance issues, prompting swift action from the studio. This week’s Patch 1.1 addressed over 1,800 issues, significantly improving the gaming experience.

Despite the challenges, delaying the game wasn’t an option for the team. In a candid interview with Eurogamer, GSC Game World’s CEO, Ievgen Grygorovych, explained:

“You’re so tired that you would just die if you say let’s run an additional marathon. We didn’t have a chance to say let’s do it more. We just had a chance of ‘let’s do until this moment – the release date – as much as we can.’”

What’s Next for Stalker Fans?

With Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl now on a solid path of improvements and new features, fans can look forward to exciting updates in 2025. From next-gen console upgrades for the Legends of the Zone Trilogy to potential PC remasters of the original games, it’s shaping up to be a promising year for the Zone’s loyal explorers.
