Capcom has officially unveiled Onimusha: Way of the Sword, the latest entry in the iconic Onimusha series. Scheduled for release in 2026, the game will launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC, marking a significant return for the beloved franchise.

A New Chapter in Kyoto

Set during the early Edo period, Way of the Sword takes players to Kyoto, a city transformed by dark forces:

“In this time of relative peace for Japan, Malice has befallen the ancient city. Twisted into an eerie and unsettling place, Kyoto has been infested by the demonic Genma.”

The gameplay trailer showcases intense combat as a lone samurai, wielding the powerful Oni Gauntlet, battles through hordes of monstrous Genma in visceral, blood-soaked sword fights.

The Legacy of Onimusha

First introduced in 2001 with Onimusha: Warlords, the series quickly became a hallmark of Capcom’s lineup. Drawing inspiration from Japanese history, the earlier games were set during the Sengoku period, blending action-adventure gameplay with historical elements. While the series saw consistent releases in the early 2000s, it has largely remained dormant, aside from the 2019 remake of Onimusha: Warlords.

With Way of the Sword, Capcom looks to revive the series, offering fans a fresh take on the classic formula while staying true to its roots.
