After navigating a complex development journey, Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl has officially launched for Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Game Pass. The release comes after GSC Game World’s partial relocation from Kiev to the Czech Republic, a move necessitated by the ongoing war in Ukraine.
The highly anticipated post-apocalyptic shooter has been praised for its atmospheric setting and engaging side stories. However, early reviews, including one from VGC, have highlighted persistent performance challenges and numerous bugs, pointing out the game’s need for further refinement.
In response to player feedback, GSC Game World shared a heartfelt message on X, expressing pride in what it calls a “love letter to Ukraine.” The studio acknowledged the game’s “rough edges” and reassured fans of its commitment to continuous improvement.
“We understand that in such a game, there may still be rough edges: we literally haven’t released anything of this scale before,” the statement read. “We’re absolutely committed to being here, monitoring your feedback, and quickly fixing any issues that need our attention.
In the first days after release, we’ll be working with hotfixes, rolling them out as precisely as possible, but as frequently as we can. Then, we’ll switch to larger updates that include constant improvements. There will also be free in-game content – we’ll share its roadmap later in December. We have big plans for the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. universe. In a way, today is both a return and the beginning of a grand new journey.”
The studio also teased plans for free in-game content, with a detailed roadmap expected in December. GSC Game World emphasized that this release marks both a culmination and a new beginning for the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. franchise, hinting at future developments within the game’s universe.
Early player reception has been promising, with the game peaking at over 113,000 concurrent players on Steam. On Metacritic, the title has received a score of 74 for PC and 81 for Xbox Series X/S, reflecting mixed yet optimistic sentiments from critics and fans alike.
As Stalker 2 begins its journey, players can expect a series of updates aimed at perfecting the game, ensuring it lives up to its immense potential and delivers a truly immersive experience in The Zone.
