In its latest financial report, publisher Take-Two has reaffirmed its commitment to releasing Grand Theft Auto 6 in the fall of 2025. This confirmation puts to rest any speculation about potential delays, solidifying the highly anticipated game’s launch window.
The hype surrounding Grand Theft Auto 6 has been immense since the debut trailer dropped in December 2023, amassing over 100 million views within just 48 hours. This staggering response surpassed the lifetime views of GTA 5’s trailer, cementing its place as one of the most-watched trailers on YouTube.
Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick shed light on the company’s approach to determining release dates during an interview with CNBC. Zelnick emphasized the importance of balancing measurable factors, such as bug count, with the more subjective pursuit of perfection.
“There are elements that you can actually measure, for example the number of bugs in a title, and every one of us will make sure we have as few bugs as possible before we launch,” Zelnick explained. “However, in the case of an extraordinary title, for which there are extraordinary expectations, it’s not really about bugs, it’s about creating an experience that no one’s seen before, and Rockstar Games seeks perfection in what they do. And perfection is indeed hard to measure, it really is more subjective than objective.”
When questioned about his confidence in meeting the Grand Theft Auto 6 release date, Zelnick acknowledged the industry’s propensity for delays but expressed optimism. “Well, there is slippage in the industry and we’re not immune from that,” he said. “However, we narrowed the timing because we are highly confident in that timing.”
With Rockstar Games’ history of revising release dates, this reassurance will likely alleviate concerns among fans eagerly awaiting Grand Theft Auto 6.
