Halo Infinite Getting Third Person View Soon!

During the 2024 Halo World Championship in Seattle, exciting news about Halo Infinite was revealed. The game is set to receive a significant update in November, introducing a third-person mode for the first time in the series. This update will allow players to experience the game from an over-the-shoulder perspective.

John ‘Unyshek’ Junyszek, senior community manager, explained that third-person controls will be “supported at a mode level.” This means players won’t have the option to switch manually between first- and third-person views during gameplay; instead, the mode will be predetermined based on the specific game mode.

The update will also enhance Forge mode, where creators will have the flexibility to toggle between first-person and third-person views for individual players or all players, offering new creative opportunities. Junyszek mentioned that the third-person view provides greater player awareness and allows users to see their Spartan in action, making it an enjoyable and immersive way to play. Internal feedback from the development team has been overwhelmingly positive, and the Halo Infinite community is eagerly awaiting this new gameplay feature.

Colin Cove, senior software engineer at Skybox Labs, discussed the technical challenges involved in implementing this feature. He emphasized that significant work went into refining the aiming system to ensure accuracy with the new camera perspective. Unlike the first-person view, where the camera is positioned in the player’s head, the third-person camera sits behind the character, requiring adjustments in how aiming mechanics function.

Junyszek noted that adapting the camera and aiming system for third-person gameplay was a major effort but is expected to offer a fresh and engaging way to experience Halo Infinite.
