Ahead of the much-anticipated release of the Until Dawn remake for PlayStation 5 and PC on October 4, nearly 4+ hours of gameplay footage has been leaked online. Streamed on Twitch by user Nikolai7PT, the footage showcases the game’s revamped opening and progresses through the first three chapters, offering fans an early glimpse of the updated horror experience.

The remake, developed by Woking-based studio Ballistic Moon, uses Unreal Engine 5, delivering enhanced visuals, character models, and environments. The cinematography has been overhauled with a mix of fixed and over-the-shoulder camera views, aiming to improve gameplay immersion. New accessibility features have also been added, including an alternative to the infamous Don’t Move mechanic, which received criticism in the original Until Dawn for PS4.

Ballistic Moon, founded in 2020 by industry veterans Duncan Kershaw, Neil McEwan, and Chris Lamb, all formerly of Supermassive Games, has made significant improvements to the storyline. The new prologue provides deeper insight into the Washington family dynamics, while key scenes around the infamous prank have been reframed to heighten emotional impact.

In addition to the Twitch stream, Sony has released the official launch trailer for the Until Dawn remake, further building excitement for its release. This remake is part of a growing trend of remastered and reimagined classic games, with Until Dawn being one of the most beloved horror titles to get a modern update.

However, not all news surrounding Ballistic Moon has been positive. In September, the studio announced significant layoffs in an effort to “secure the future” of the company.

Adding to the excitement, a feature film adaptation of Until Dawn is currently in production. Directed by David F. Sandberg, known for his work on Lights Out, Annabelle: Creation, and Shazam, the movie aims to capture the essence of the game while introducing new characters and plot elements. Sandberg expressed his enthusiasm for returning to the horror genre, promising to deliver a terrifying experience that both newcomers and fans of the original game will enjoy.

With its October 4 release approaching, the Until Dawn remake is set to offer an even more intense and emotional horror experience, backed by updated mechanics, improved visuals, and fresh story elements that will appeal to both longtime fans and new players alike.

This remake promises to elevate Until Dawn to new heights, solidifying its place among modern horror classics.
