The acclaimed God of War series’ Santa Monica Studio is currently working on a new intellectual property (IP). The LinkedIn profile of Glauco Longhi contains this data. The unannounced project’s character development is being overseen by Longhi, who returned to the studio earlier this year.
Longhi began her career at Sony as a senior character artist for Uncharted 4 at Naughty Dog. In 2016, she played a similar role on the God of War reboot at Santa Monica Studio. He later turned into the lead character craftsman for Lord of War Ragnarök. Longhi left Ragnarök to work as a character and art director at Striking Distance Studios, the studio behind The Callisto Protocol. He was Subnautica’s studio art director at Unknown Worlds Entertainment for ten months prior to his April return to Santa Monica Studio.
Longhi stated in a LinkedIn post (via ResetEra) that “Santa Monica Studios presented the opportunity to come back as Character Supervisor, looking after the entire Character Development pipeline, on their new IP,” and “here I am, thrilled to be back, working again with the crew and pushing Characters in videogames together.”
Cory Barlog, Santa Monica’s creative director who oversaw the creation of God of War in 2018, stated in November 2022 that the studio was “spread out on a lot of different things.” Santa Monica Studio has supported independent game developers like Giant Sparrow (The Unfinished Swan), Thatgamecompany (Journey), Eat Sleep Play (Twisted Metal), and Ready at Dawn (The Order: 1886), and Q-Games (PixelJunk).
The studio was formerly dealing with a new science fiction IP under the bearing of Stig Asmussen, the imaginative head of Divine force of War 3 and previous overseer of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Request. Notwithstanding, this task was dropped in 2014, prompting a series of cutbacks.
