Microsoft has announced a delay for the Xbox console exclusive, Avowed, pushing its release to early next year. Originally slated for 2024, a blog post from developer Obsidian hinted at a November 12 release date before being removed. Now, an official message from the Xbox account on X confirms the new release date as February 18, 2025.

The announcement, accompanied by an image of upcoming first-party Xbox games, explains the delay: “So many games coming! As such, we’re moving Avowed to February 18, 2025, to give players’ backlogs some breathing room.” More updates from Activision, Blizzard, Bethesda, and Xbox Game Studios will be showcased at Gamescom, including a livestream on August 23 featuring a look at Avowed.

With Avowed’s delay, the remaining Xbox console exclusive games for the end of 2024 include Age of Mythology Retold (September 4), Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 (November 19), Towerborne (TBC 2024), and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle (TBC 2024).

Announced in July 2020, Avowed is a first-person fantasy action RPG set in the world of Eora, first introduced in Obsidian’s Pillars of Eternity series. Director Carrie Patel compares its scope to Obsidian’s previous game, The Outer Worlds, suggesting a similar experience in terms of length and depth, depending on players’ choices and playstyle.
