The original Splitgate, a free-to-play first-person shooter released in 2019, introduced a unique portal-hopping mechanic. Initially developed as a school project in a dorm room, the game saw immense success, with over 22 million downloads across PC and consoles.

A sequel, set for a 2025 release, is being developed by a highly experienced team, including veterans from 343 Industries, Bungie, Activision, Riot, and EA. This new installment promises to offer a fresh yet familiar experience for fans.

Ian Proulx, CEO and co-founder of 1047 Games, reflected on the journey: “The original Splitgate was an ambitious but scrappy project that exceeded our wildest dreams. This time, Splitgate 2 is being developed from scratch in Unreal Engine 5, aiming to deliver a top-tier FPS experience. Our signature action has been completely revamped by an all-star team, marking a revolutionary step forward for competitive shooters. It’s an ideal entry point for new players and a significant upgrade for our existing community.”

While Splitgate 2 won’t be available on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, and Xbox One until 2025, a companion app is now available on iOS and Android. This app features collectibles that can unlock content in the upcoming game.
