Ghost of Yotei Legends

Sucker Punch Productions has officially confirmed that Ghost of Yōtei will receive Legends Mode in 2026, bringing back the beloved cooperative multiplayer experience first introduced in Ghost of Tsushima. The announcement was made during Gamescom Opening Night Live, where the studio revealed the first details of the upcoming free DLC.

Legends Returns, Free for All Players

Much like Ghost of Tsushima Legends, the new multiplayer mode will be released as a free add-on for all owners of Ghost of Yōtei. Designed as a supernatural counterpoint to the grounded single-player world, Legends will once again allow players to team up and face fantastical, otherworldly threats.

“Ghost of Yōtei Legends will offer two-player story missions and four-player survival matches,” according to Sucker Punch. “This time around, you’ll play as one of four character classes and try to defeat demonic, giant versions of members of the Yōtei Six, plus a variety of new enemies that fight alongside them.”

This marks the second time Sucker Punch has expanded its samurai epic with a cooperative experience, and given the strong reception to Legends in Ghost of Tsushima, fans can expect a similar blend of myth, teamwork, and challenging encounters.

A Look Back and What’s Ahead

Ghost of Yotei

The original Legends mode was widely praised for offering a different playstyle compared to the main narrative campaign, with players embracing roles such as Assassins, Hunters, Ronin, and Samurai. Ghost of Yōtei Legends looks set to continue this tradition, introducing fresh character classes and supernatural bosses inspired by Japanese folklore.

Set in Hokkaido in 1603, Ghost of Yōtei itself launches on October 2, 2025, exclusively for PlayStation 5. Earlier this year, Sucker Punch announced a Collector’s Edition packed with exclusive items, including a display-ready replica of Atsu’s Ghost mask, built to scale just like Jin’s mask from the Ghost of Tsushima Collector’s Edition.

Creative directors Jason Connell and Nate Fox have emphasized their approach to authenticity blended with creative freedom:

“Our game is very inspired by history, but we are not making a stone-for-stone recreation,” Fox said. “Our game is a work of fiction. However, we do want to make the world feel authentic and be very respectful to the cultures that existed there. Thankfully, we are a part of Sony. So we have a lot of colleagues in Tokyo who really help us out, who give us a lot of guidance.”

Looking Forward to 2026

With Ghost of Yōtei already shaping up to be a major PlayStation 5 release this October, the news of Legends returning in 2026 adds another layer of excitement. Players can look forward to a blend of cooperative challenges, supernatural enemies, and mythological storytelling that builds upon the foundation laid by Ghost of Tsushima Legends.
